The article presents description of various books based on child fiction. "Utterly Me, Clarice Bean," by Lauren Child. Clarice Bean, the brassy young heroine of three picture books, has graduated to a chapter book. Her "horrible" teacher has assigned the class a project in which they must show what they have learned from reading a book. When Clarice's best friend and partner on the project disappears, Clarice is paired with a naughty little boy. "The Cat Who Liked Potato Soup," by Terry Farish. This is a story about a old man and his old cat that is set in rural Texas. The language reflects the folksy dialect of the setting. The cat likes to go fishing with the old man, but more than that, she likes to eat his potato soup. The man loves the cat, but "not so you'd notice."
