In the article, the author recalls his conversation with Jonathan Margin who was recently replaced as the editor of "Belle Lettres," the literary weekly of which the author is assistant editor. The author was shocked to hear the news of Margin's demotion as staff columnist. The replacement is Mary Tooling, the wife of the publisher Cyrus Tooling. She had a special interest in the company's cultural magazines. The author provides Margin the moral support, however, Margin is quite disappointed. The author is ready to support Margin by showing his dissent, as he is going to boycott the party, which is being organized in the honor of Mary Tooling.
