Abstract
- 1-(Furan-2-ylmethyl)-1 H-tetrazole (fmt), prepared by heterocyclization of furfurylamine with triethyl orthoformate and sodium azide, was found to react with copper(II) perchlorate, nitrate, and bromide giving complexes [Cu(fmt)<subscript>4</subscript>(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)<subscript>2</subscript>](ClO<subscript>4</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>, [Cu(fmt)<subscript>3</subscript>(NO<subscript>3</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)], and [Cu<subscript>2</subscript>(fmt)<subscript>4</subscript>Br<subscript>4</subscript>], respectively. The obtained crystalline complexes and fmt were characterized by X-ray diffraction, thermal analyses, and IR spectroscopy. In the complexes, fmt acts as a monodentate ligand coordinated via the tetrazole ring N<superscript>4</superscript> atom. [Cu(fmt)<subscript>4</subscript>(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)<subscript>2</subscript>](ClO<subscript>4</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript> comprises a mononuclear complex cation with an elongated CuN<subscript>4</subscript>O<subscript>2 </subscript>octahedron. [Cu(fmt)<subscript>3</subscript>(NO<subscript>3</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)] presents a mononuclear complex, where the copper atom is in a heptacoordinate environment forming a considerably distorted pentagonal bipyramid. [Cu<subscript>2</subscript>(fmt)<subscript>4</subscript>Br<subscript>4</subscript>] presents a centrosymmetric dinuclear bromido-bridged complex with a square pyramidal environment of copper atoms.
