Abstract

The article presents a canonical and intertextual interpretation of the Bible passage Psalm 89. Topics include the pervading theme of the absence and silence of God in Book II of the Psalter, the failure of the Davidic covenant, the loss of King David's dynasty, and the question of the nature of God's promises to His people. Other topics include the messianic hope in the Davidic and royal themes in Psalm 89, and how it is rooted in God's character and kingship, and the answer of Books IV and V.
