Abstract

The central topic of this article is the selection and training of interviewers, supervisors and research technicians. Problems pertaining to critical points at which they may affect the results of opinion research in India, sources of available interviewers, problems and advantages that are associated with particular kinds of interviewer personnel and the reason for lack of specialization of research personnel, are generally are discussed in brief. Most of the problems Indian researchers face are not in any sense peculiar to the Indian situation, but many are greatly accentuated there. As in India, the person who does opinion interviewing singly and professionally as his or her occupation is an extreme rarity. On the contrary, Indian research organizations are staffed by a handful of jacks of many trades' supplemented by part time field assistants.
