Abstract

The article discusses the development of the international law of the sea in relation to the potential role that global agreements might play in a Philippine-Chinese dispute over the South China Sea as of 2014. Sovereignty conflicts and the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) are examined. International jurisdiction and territorial rights are assessed, as well as maritime claims and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea.
