Abstract

The article discusses a study which compared the degree of vulnerability from the alteration or loss of carbon (C) in soils at sites where the land cover was converted from forest to pasture in 4 municipalities in Sao Paolo, Brazil. Topics discussed include soil organic matter (SOM) as one of the 3 core soil attributes that underly the quality of soil ecosystems services and how land cover change may be main anthropogenic component driving local environmental fate.
