Abstract

Migraine, characterized by several autonomic disturbances both during and between attacks, suggests an involvement of the autonomic nervous system (ANS). To clarify the role of the ANS in migraine pathogenesis, we reviewed the major studies on autonomic function. The results of these investigations are contradictory, suggesting hypo- and hyperfunctioning of both the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
