Abstract
- This article presents one English local authority's educational psychology service's approach to supporting children and young people's psychological well-being. Evidence for the effectiveness of the therapeutic approaches adopted by one intervention (the Child Behaviour Intervention Initiative [CBII]) is presented. The statistical analysis indicates positive impact and suggests the interventions are highly effective. The local authority is a pathfinder for the Targeted Mental Health in School Project (a United Kingdom government funded initiative to support children with developing mental health difficulties). The interventions being run through this programme are outlined and early impact indicated. The paper uses these examples to demonstrate how educational psychology services can practically support children's mental health and psychological well-being outside the classroom.
