Abstract
- The article provides information on the effects of electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). With a recent U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) decision reclassified ECT as a high risk procedure, the authors reflect on the stigma associated with ECT and argue that substantive evidence has shown no brain damage when undergoing the procedure. The authors recognize ECT's effects on neurocognitive function but maintains its safety and effectivity as a treatment for severe depression.
