Abstract

The author discourages the use of the 1-in-X risk communication format in clinical practice. He cites the results of a study which support the conclusion that 1-in-X formats reduced patient understanding of risk information and tended to increase risk perceptions. He also comments on a meta-analysis of five separate studies further exploring the 1-in-X effect published within the issue.
