Abstract

The article reports on a debate in the U.S. mortgage industry about ways to expand access to credit. According to software company FICO, the solution for credit-access problems is not to use unreliable data but to turn to alternative data such as the payment of everyday bills. A report from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) showed the number and composition of consumers who lack the most significant gateway to credit access.
