Abstract

The article reports on the influence of the First and Fourth Amendments in limiting the manner in which the U.S. government may collect information. Topics include the limitation imposed by the Fourth Amendment to the government's ability to conduct a range of activities such as physical searches of homes, the restriction posed by the First Amendment to government efforts to prohibit the free exercise of religion or the right to peaceful assembly.
