Evidence-based medicine and myocardial protection — where is the evidence?

The article discusses a study which assessed the common cardioplegic solutions including microplegia, del Nido, Custodio HTK and 4:1 blood cardioplegia to determine what is the ideal cardioplegic solution to be used in cardiac surgical procedures. The study presents a systematic review of publications on cardioplegia as used in myocardial protection. It also recommends the need for comparative effectiveness studies of the cardioplegic solutions to fully answer the research question.
