Abstract

This study deals with the field of construction materials technological research, which should not be neglected in the process of monument restoration. The work sums up all the results of the current state of plasters in the Church of St. Giles in Uhlířské Janovice, Czech Republic, (humidity ratios, contents of water-soluble salts in masonry, pH of plaster leaches and a survey of biological damage) and plaster analyses (probe examination, microscopy, granulometry, mercury porosimetry, x-ray diffraction analysis and thermo gravimetric and differential thermal analyses), including the description of the methods and procedures applied. According to these analysis results it is then possible to identify the main parameters a mortar for fillings and repairs should comply with when restoring historically significant plasters with wall paintings from the 1490s of the 14th century located in the church presbytery.
