Abstract

A novel phase shifter that can adjust the output phase by changing the wide side dimension of a rectangular waveguide was once proposed. No dielectric or mental pins are involved in this phase shifter. It is expected that this phase shifter can have a high power handling capacity. In this paper, experimental research of this phase shifter at frequency 15.2 GHz is performed. Transmission efficiency and the ability of adjusting the output phase are measured in different conditions. Data are analyzed, it is found that this phase shifter can indeed realize adjusting phase in a range of 0°–360°. The transmission efficiency is strongly dependent on the gap between the adjustable metal plate and the waveguide. It can be over 95% when the gap is small enough. It is inferred that nice electric contact is favorable to the performance of this phase shifter. Furthermore, the power capacity of this waveguide phase shifter has been preliminary verified by Ku-band high-power microwave source. It is over 70 kW in the atmosphere. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
