Abstract

This paper presents a comprehensive study on effect of surface roughness, curing time, welding current, weld time and electrode pressure on ultimate shear tensile load (USTL) on weld-bonds of a 2-mm-thick 6061T651 aluminium alloy sheet. Weld-bonding is a combination of adhesive bonding and resistance welding process in which adhesive is pre-placed in the joint and a spot weld is made through the adhesive. The tensile shear resistance of the adhesive joint and resistance spot welds were evaluated using uni-axial load on two ends of the lap joints and applying shear tensile load. A comparative study of ultimate shear tensile load of weld-bonds, resistance spot welds and adhesive bonds was carried out. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
