The article presents an untapped potential to promote cross-border innovation of the Bothnian Arc cross-border between Finland and Sweden. It explores the development of structural cross-border initiatives that depend on the alignment of national/regional initiatives on both sides of the border. It highlights the joint funding programmes for projects in research and development (R&D) in areas of shared interest, drawing lessons from the Wood Material Science and Engineering Research Programme.
