Abstract

The article focuses on the influence of Marxist-Socialist ideas on the women's movement in Bulgaria during the 19th- and 20th-centuries. Several conflicts characterized this influence including the perception of socialists that feminism is bourgeois ideology, the cooperation between the working-class women and feminists to gain political and civil rights, and the concept of equal rights. The role of he Bulgarian Women's Union and Union of Progressive Women is discussed.
