Abstract

The article provides details about the hawala system or the black market for foreign exchange that is used is a number of countries including Sudan, Iran, Kenya, Somalia and Libya. It explains that this mode involving only cash transactions are used by people as the charges for the transfer are much lower than the service charges of the banking industry and of financial services companies like Western Union. It points out that this system has no transaction records and hence is untraceable.
