Abstract

A case study is presented on the traveling art exhibition titled "Art of New Zealand" to museums in North America in 1941 sponsored by the philanthropic trust the Carnegie Corporation of New York, including in regard to the exhibition's cancellation. The role that the exhibition played in U.S. and New Zealand's relations at the beginning of World War II, including in regard developing cultural relations between the countries, is discussed. An overview of the Director of the Yale University Art Gallery Theodore "Tubby" Sizer's role in curating the exhibition is provided.
