Abstract

The authors discuss a study of greenhouse-gas (GHG) emissions from the global shipping sector between 2007 and 2012, which was released by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in November 2014. They mention that the shipping industry expects an ongoing increase of carbon dioxide (CO<subscript>2</subscript>) emissions to 2050. They comment that decarbonizing opportunities with global commitments on climate change need to be re-evaluated.
