Abstract

A literary criticism of the drama "Iphigenia in Tauris" by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, translated by Roy Pascal, and edited by Martin Swales, is presented. It outlines the characters in the play, and compares the tragic tradition from that of playwright William Shakespeare. According to the author, the drama is a classical reworking that has some peculiarly contemporary resonances.
