Abstract: The article discusses the role of the Jesuits and of the Catholic church more generally in producing 17th century Latin documents about the city of Antwerp, Belgium. It also describes these documents' value as historical sources. Among other topics addressed are the Jesuit priest Carolus Scribani who published many of the documents, the role of the Jesuits in Antwerp of the time, and the economic and political influence of the Jesuits throughout Europe.
