Abstract

Eu<superscript>3+</superscript>-activated La<subscript>2</subscript>CaB<subscript>10</subscript>O<subscript>19</subscript> phosphors with nominal chemical formulae La<subscript>2−x</subscript>Eu<subscript>x</subscript>CaB<subscript>10</subscript>O<subscript>19</subscript> and La<subscript>2</subscript>Ca<subscript>1−2x</subscript>Eu<subscript>x</subscript>Na<subscript>x</subscript>B<subscript>10</subscript>O<subscript>19</subscript> were prepared. The luminescence properties under VUV-UV excitation were investigated. Luminescence spectra reveal Eu<superscript>3+</superscript> ions occupy both Ca<superscript>2+</superscript> and La<superscript>3+</superscript> sites in all samples. The O<superscript>2−</superscript>→ Eu<superscript>3+</superscript> charge transfer bands (CTBs) and the <superscript>5</superscript>D<subscript>0</subscript>→<superscript>7</superscript>F<subscript>0</subscript> emissions of Eu<superscript>3+</superscript> at Ca <superscript>2+</superscript> site and La<superscript>3+</superscript> site are identified, respectively. The schematic energy levels for Eu<superscript>3+</superscript> in two sites were achieved. Luminescence decays of the <superscript>5</superscript>D<subscript>0</subscript>→<superscript>7</superscript>F<subscript>0</subscript> transitions were measured for both sites.
