Abstract

The article discusses the success of the U.S. and its allies against the jihadist group Islamic State (ISIS). Stopping the jihadist advances in Iraq and Syria and pushing ISIS back is expected to be an effective way to tackle with the situation. In Iraq as well as in Syria, political accommodation of diverse ethnic and religious groups may be required to fully defeat ISIS and prevent it or any other Islamist movement from gaining a new foothold.
