Abstract

Great Britain wants to return bones held in museums to their rightful owners. But the task will be far from easy if the US experience is to be considered. The fate of the oldest Native American discovered, 9000-year-old Kennewick Man is to be decided by the courts following contests between scientists and tribes who live in the area. Since there is no complete list of skeletal remains held in Great Britain, any legislation passed will cause similar complications.
