Abstract

A novel porous anionic MOF {[Mg<subscript>3</subscript>(ndc)<subscript>2.5</subscript>(HCO<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)][NH<subscript>2</subscript>Me<subscript>2</subscript>]⋅2H<subscript>2</subscript>O⋅DMF} (1) having exchangeable dim ethyl amine cations in 1D channels has been synthesized and characterized. Through cation exchange, 1 manifests bimodal functionality, being a turn-off sensor of Cu<superscript>II</superscript> on one hand, and a selective sensitizer of Eu<superscript>III</superscript> emitting intense pure red emission on the other.
