Abstract
- A series of non-Grignard Mg-electrolytes with various parasubstituents was synthesized starting from commercially-available phenols. More electron-withdrawing substituents shift the anodic stability of the electrolyte by 400 mV. The <subscript>p</subscript>-CF<subscript>3</subscript> substituted phenol exhibits the highest stability of 2.9 V vs. Mg<superscript>2+/0</superscript>, and cycles reversibly with the Chevrel-phase Mo<subscript>6</subscript>S<subscript>8</subscript> Mg-ion cathode.
