Abstract

This study was designed to determine listening preferences of undergraduate agricultural curricula majors attending West Virginia University during the1998 spring semester according to the Listening Styles Profile. The Listening Styles Profile defines listening preferences in four main categories: People-Oriented, Action-Oriented, Content-Oriented, and TimeOriented. The objectives of this study were to define listening preferences of undergraduate agricultural curricula majors and determine if listening styles are influenced by demographics. The demographic variables included: home location, rank, gender, grade point average, and major. It was concluded that agricultural curricula majors are predominantly People-Oriented listeners. Listener preferences of agriculture majors are not influenced by demographics. The Listening Styles Profile should be administered to students working on their teaching certification, Agricultural and Environmental Education faculty, extension clientele, and teachers to assist in the enhancement of classroom effectiveness.
