Additivity of the Crossing Number of Links

It is an open conjecture in knot theory whether the crossing number of links is additive underthe connected sum operation. This conjecture has been proved for various families of links.In this paper, we prove this conjecture for the family of alternating links, following the workof Louis Kauffman; and for the family of torus knots, following the work of Yuanan Diao.
