Abstract
- In response to the increased number of neck dissection procedures and the lack of uniformity of terminology for describing these, several classification proposals have been made. The consensus report on neck dissection terminology by the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery seems to have gained wide acceptance. This report outlines the Academy's classification system and its definitions for the lymph node groups. Other authors contributions are discussed and recommendations are suggested for future refinements to the classification system.
