Abstract: The hearts of human embryos, ranging from 3.6 to 25 mM crown-rump length, have been studied in view of the problem of the possible contribution of the atrioventricular endocardial cushions to septation. Serial sections and graphic reconstructions were used. It is concluded that the cushions do not materially contribute to the mature muscular septum.
