Abstract
- TbAl <subscript>3</subscript> (BO <subscript>3</subscript> ) <subscript>4</subscript> should not be considered as a strictly stoichiometric compound. A variety of Tb <subscript>1+ x </subscript> Al <subscript>3- x </subscript> (BO <subscript>3</subscript> ) <subscript>4</subscript> ( x = -0.1-0.15) single phase compositions with the R 32 space group were synthesized in the TbBO <subscript>3</subscript> -(Al <subscript>2</subscript> O <subscript>3</subscript> ·B <subscript>2</subscript> O <subscript>3</subscript> ) system. The K <subscript>2</subscript> Mo <subscript>3</subscript> O <subscript>10</subscript> -B <subscript>2</subscript> O <subscript>3</subscript> -Al <subscript>2</subscript> O <subscript>3</subscript> flux was used to grow Tb <subscript>1+ x </subscript> Al <subscript>3- x </subscript> (BO <subscript>3</subscript> ) <subscript>4</subscript> ( x = 0.06 and 0.09) crystals. The orthoborates have typical luminescence in the green range which correlated with the <superscript>5</superscript> D <subscript>3</subscript> → <superscript>7</superscript> F <subscript>6</subscript> electron transition of Tb <superscript>3+</superscript> . However, deviating from stoichiometry can result in halving the quantum efficiency of luminescence. The SHG efficiency from 1064 nm radiation for Tb <subscript>1+ x </subscript> Al <subscript>3- x </subscript> (BO <subscript>3</subscript> ) <subscript>4</subscript> crystals ( x = 0.06 and 0.09) was found to be 1.82 and 1.53 times higher than that of KDP, respectively.
