Abstract
- A 66-year-old man with post-myocardial infarction ventricular septal rupture, apical aneurysm, and pseudoaneurysm presenting in cardiogenic shock received a surgically placed temporary microaxial transvalvular left ventricular assist device. This stabilized hemodynamics and end-organ function, and he subsequently underwent successful heart transplantation. A temporary microaxial transvalvular left ventricular assist device can effectively bridge patients with select mechanical complications of myocardial infarction beyond ventricular septal rupture.<br />Competing Interests: Dr Soltesz is the Donna and Ken Lewis Endowed Chair in Cardiothoracic Surgery; and has received honoraria from Abbott, Abiomed, Atricure, and Dilon.
