Abstract

Abstract: Chronically transfused patients with sickle cell disease typically do not exhibit iron-mediated extrahepatic toxicity. However, we demonstrate that the pituitary gland is vulnerable to iron deposition, and it occurs regardless of other extrahepatic involvement. Severe pituitary siderosis is associated with early organ dysfunction.<br /> (© 2024 American Society of Hematology. Published by Elsevier Inc.
