Abstract
- Second victim phenomenon (SVP) occurs when nurses who are involved in an unanticipated adverse event become victimized and traumatized by the event. Following a needs assessment, an SVP education program was implemented, including adverse events and SVP experiences, available support, and a case study. Evaluation indicated nurses had improved knowledge and attitude and increased practice intent. Education that promotes awareness is the first step to support nurses who experience events that can precipitate SVP.<br /> (Copyright © 2023 Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc. All rights reserved.)
