Abstract

A solution-phase synthesis of colloidally stable A <subscript>2</subscript> BF <subscript>6</subscript> nanocrystals is reported for the first time, focusing on A <superscript>+</superscript> = Cs <superscript>+</superscript> , NH <subscript>4</subscript> <superscript>+</superscript> and B <superscript>4+</superscript> = Zr <superscript>4+</superscript> . Handling hypertoxic HF is avoided by using NH <subscript>4</subscript> F and a low-boiling-point alcohol, representing the first synthesis of any A <subscript>2</subscript> BF <subscript>6</subscript> nanocrystals without HF addition. The chemical incompatability of Zr <superscript>4+</superscript> with other common fluoride sources is discussed.
