Abstract

Driven by the synergistic-directing effect of the lacunary fragments, [B-α-GeW <subscript>9</subscript> O <subscript>34</subscript> ] <superscript>10-</superscript> and [B-α-GeW <subscript>11</subscript> O <subscript>39</subscript> ] <superscript>8-</superscript> , an unprecedented hepta-Zr-substituted polyoxometalate (POM) assembly K <subscript>2</subscript> Na <subscript>6</subscript> H <subscript>10</subscript> (Hpy) <subscript>3</subscript> [SbZr <subscript>7</subscript> O <subscript>6</subscript> (OH) <subscript>4</subscript> (B-α-GeW <subscript>9</subscript> O <subscript>34</subscript> ) <subscript>2</subscript> (B-α-GeW <subscript>11</subscript> O <subscript>39</subscript> ) <subscript>2</subscript> ]·28H <subscript>2</subscript> O ( 1 ) was made under hydrothermal condition and structurally characterized. Of which, a unique hepta-Zr cluster, [SbZr <subscript>7</subscript> O <subscript>6</subscript> (OH) <subscript>4</subscript> ] <superscript>15+</superscript> core, was built by two trilacunary [B-α-GeW <subscript>9</subscript> O <subscript>34</subscript> ] <superscript>10-</superscript> fragments and two monolacunary [B-α-GeW <subscript>11</subscript> O <subscript>39</subscript> ] <superscript>8-</superscript> fragments and further arranged in a mode of a vertical cross and formed a pseudo-tetrahedron geometry. Compound 1 features the first Zr <subscript>7</subscript> -cluster-substituted POM. Moreover, 1 is an effective heterogeneous catalyst for the catalytic oxidation of sulfides into the corresponding sulfones with H <subscript>2</subscript> O <subscript>2</subscript> , manifesting distinguished conversion, excellent yield, and desired recyclability.
