Abstract: This editorial seeks to draw our attention to the central role of health research in identifying solutions to persistent challenges to meeting health goals, and as a core component of economic development, irrespective of the level of economic development of the country. As such, the 'leave no one behind' principle which underpins the sustainable development agenda applies to health research as well.
