Abstract

Clinical diagnosis of preinvasive malignant lesions of the penis is difficult and there are numerous differential diagnoses. Recent decades have been witness to several changes in the terminology of histopathological diagnoses. In the current World Health Organization classification, penile intraepithelial neoplasia (PeIN) is defined, of which several subtypes exist. Just like in invasive carcinoma, the principal classification of PeIN subtypes corresponds with pathogenesis and includes human papilloma virus (HPV)-related and non-HPV-related forms. Subdivision is important for prognosis. Several therapeutic options exist, including surgical and nonsurgical procedures.<br /> (© 2021. Springer Medizin Verlag GmbH, ein Teil von Springer Nature.)
