Abstract

Three novel Zr-substituted polyoxotungstate aggregates [H <subscript>2</subscript> N(CH <subscript>3</subscript> ) <subscript>2</subscript> ] <subscript>7</subscript> NaH <subscript>2</subscript> [Zr <subscript>2</subscript> Sb <subscript>2</subscript> O <subscript>3</subscript> ( A -α-PW <subscript>9</subscript> O <subscript>34</subscript> ) <subscript>2</subscript> ]·16H <subscript>2</subscript> O ( 1 ), [H <subscript>2</subscript> N(CH <subscript>3</subscript> ) <subscript>2</subscript> ] <subscript>6</subscript> H <subscript>12</subscript> [ZrSb <subscript>4</subscript> (OH)O <subscript>2</subscript> ( A -α-PW <subscript>8</subscript> O <subscript>32</subscript> )( A -α-PW <subscript>9</subscript> O <subscript>34</subscript> )] <subscript>2</subscript> ·33H <subscript>2</subscript> O ( 2 ), and [H <subscript>2</subscript> N(CH <subscript>3</subscript> ) <subscript>2</subscript> ] <subscript>4</subscript> Na <subscript>11.5</subscript> H <subscript>4.5</subscript> [Zr <subscript>4</subscript> W <subscript>8</subscript> Sb <subscript>4</subscript> P <subscript>5</subscript> O <subscript>49</subscript> (OH) <subscript>5</subscript> ( B -α-SbW <subscript>9</subscript> O <subscript>33</subscript> ) <subscript>2</subscript> ]·53H <subscript>2</subscript> O ( 3 ) have been made in hydrothermal reactions of the [ B -α-SbW <subscript>9</subscript> O <subscript>33</subscript> ] <superscript>9-</superscript> precursor with Zr <superscript>4+</superscript> cations and PO <subscript>4</subscript> <superscript>3-</superscript> anions in the presence of dimethylamine hydrochloride and sodium acetate buffer (pH = 4.8) and structurally characterized. Different pH values induce structural transformation from tungstoantimonate (TA) to tungstophosphate (TP). 1 is a di-Zr-substituted sandwich-type TP, the tetranuclear heterometallic [Zr <subscript>2</subscript> Sb <subscript>2</subscript> O <subscript>3</subscript> ] <superscript>8+</superscript> entity sandwiched by two [ A -α-PW <subscript>9</subscript> O <subscript>34</subscript> ] <superscript>9-</superscript> moieties. 2 is a double sandwich-type structure, which can be perceived as two equivalent sandwiched [Sb <subscript>3</subscript> (PW <subscript>8</subscript> O <subscript>32</subscript> )(PW <subscript>9</subscript> O <subscript>34</subscript> )] <superscript>11-</superscript> further sandwiching one [Sb <subscript>2</subscript> Zr <subscript>2</subscript> (OH) <subscript>2</subscript> O <subscript>4</subscript> ] <superscript>4+</superscript> core to form a novel large-size sandwich-type architecture. Different from 1 and 2 , 3 is a tetra-Zr-substituted sandwiched configuration, in which two [ B -α-SbW <subscript>9</subscript> O <subscript>33</subscript> ] <superscript>9-</superscript> fragments sandwich a unique 21-core Sb-P-W-Zr oxo cluster ({Zr <subscript>4</subscript> W <subscript>8</subscript> Sb <subscript>4</subscript> P <subscript>5</subscript> }). Furthermore, the catalytic oxidation of aromatic thioethers by 3 as the heterogeneous catalyst has been investigated, showing high conversion and remarkable selectivity as well as excellent recyclability.
