Abstract

Tenofovir disoproxil fumurate (TDF) therapy during late pregnancy in highly viremic mothers can reduce residual overt hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections of their infants that occur despite immunoprophylaxis. <superscript>1</superscript> <superscript>,</superscript> <superscript>2</superscript> Occult HBV infection (OBI) has been defined as the presence of HBV DNA in liver or sera in subjects seronegative for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg). <superscript>3</superscript> OBI has been found in varying proportions of immunized infants born to HBsAg-positive mothers. <superscript>4-6</superscript> We aimed to investigate the impact of maternal TDF therapy during pregnancy on vertically acquired OBI.<br /> (Copyright © 2021 AGA Institute.
