Abstract

Isolation and structural characterization of novel organoantimony(V)-based oxo clusters are reported. (RSb) <subscript>4</subscript> (OH) <subscript>4</subscript> ( t -BuPO <subscript>3</subscript> ) <subscript>6</subscript> and (RSb) <subscript>2</subscript> (O)( t -BuPO <subscript>3</subscript> H) <subscript>6</subscript> independently in the presence of pyridine under solvothermal conditions afford the hexanuclear organoantimonate clusters [(RSb) <subscript>6</subscript> (μ <subscript>3</subscript> -O) <subscript>2</subscript> (μ <subscript>2</subscript> -O) <subscript>6</subscript> ( t -BuPO <subscript>3</subscript> ) <subscript>4</subscript> ], where R = p - i -PrC <subscript>6</subscript> H <subscript>4</subscript> ( 1 ), p -ClC <subscript>6</subscript> H <subscript>4</subscript> ( 2 ). Further, reaction of organostibonate phosphonate with Ti(O <superscript> i </superscript> Pr) <subscript>4</subscript> in the presence of pyridine under solvothermal conditions afforded the mixed-metal titanium stibonate hexanuclear clusters [(RSb) <subscript>2</subscript> Ti <subscript>4</subscript> (μ <subscript>3</subscript> -O) <subscript>2</subscript> (μ <subscript>2</subscript> -O) <subscript>2</subscript> ( t -BuPO <subscript>3</subscript> ) <subscript>4</subscript> (μ-OCH <subscript>3</subscript> ) <subscript>4</subscript> (OCH <subscript>3</subscript> ) <subscript>4</subscript> ], where R = p - i -PrC <subscript>6</subscript> H <subscript>4</subscript> ( 3 ), p -ClC <subscript>6</subscript> H <subscript>4</subscript> ( 4 ). Band gap measurements were performed on 1 - 4 . They reveal a remarkable reduction in the band gap on moving from the heavier main-group-based oxo cages ( 1 and 2 ) to the titanium-incorporated oxo cages ( 3 and 4 ).
