Abstract

Blunt, penetrating trauma to the ear, nose, and throat, and related structures are striking. Injuries may range from simple soft tissue wounds to complex injuries of the face, neck, and brain. Proximity of the cervical spine and airway complicate anesthetic management. A multidisciplinary approach is required. Airway control has highest priority in initial care. Management of airway, breathing, and circulation need to be tailored to the patient. Decisions regarding airway management, ventilation strategies, monitoring, and fluid and blood administration should be based on the patient's condition, clinical setting, and the available personnel, expertise, and equipment.<br /> (Copyright © 2019 Elsevier Inc.
