Abstract

NorA is a Staphylococcus aureus multidrug transporter that exports structurally distinct compounds including fluoroquinolones. In this study norA- like genes of Staphylococcus epidermidis ( norA <subscript>SEP</subscript> ) and Staphylococcus haemolyticus ( norA <subscript>SHAE</subscript> ) were identified and sequenced. The nucleotide identity of norA <subscript>SEP</subscript> and norA <subscript>SHAE</subscript> with norA was 75.3 and 74.1%, respectively, and the amino acid identity 87.7 and 86%, respectively. Inactivation of norA <subscript>SEP</subscript> increased the ciprofloxacin susceptibility of E. coli DH5α carrying the pB SK 198 norA <subscript>SEP</subscript> EZ cat norA <subscript>SEP</subscript> plasmid.<br />Competing Interests: Conflict of Interest: All authors declare no conflicts of interest in this paper.
