Abstract

Cardiac disease in pregnancy is the number one indirect cause of maternal mortality in the United States. We propose a triad solution that includes universal screening for cardiovascular disease in pregnancy and postpartum women, patient education, and institution of a multidisciplinary cardiac team. Additionally, we emphasize essential elements to maximize care for the pregnant cardiac patient based on our experience at our institution in Bronx, NY.<br /> (Published by Elsevier Inc.)
