Abstract
- Although patent foramen ovale (PFO) is a relatively common condition, the risk of paradoxical embolism is less than 2% of all arterial ischemia. We present the case of a 52-year-old man diagnosed with pulmonary thromboembolism complicated with 2 events of paradoxical emboli in the left upper and right lower limbs secondary to PFO. We also discuss some uncertainties behind the management of PFO patients after an episode of venous thromboembolism.<br /> (Copyright © 2018 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.)
