Abstract
- Here we report on the synthesis and structural characterization of the dithallium(III)-containing 30-tungsto -4-phosphate [Tl <subscript>2</subscript> Na <subscript>2</subscript> (H <subscript>2</subscript> O) <subscript>2</subscript> {P <subscript>2</subscript> W <subscript>15</subscript> O <subscript>56</subscript> } <subscript>2</subscript> ] <superscript>16-</superscript> (1) by a multitude of solid-state and solution techniques. Polyanion 1 comprises two octahedrally coordinated Tl <superscript>3+</superscript> ions sandwiched between two trilacunary {P <subscript>2</subscript> W <subscript>15</subscript> } Wells-Dawson fragments and represents only the second structurally characterized, discrete thallium-containing polyoxometalate to date. The two outer positions of the central rhombus are occupied by sodium ions. The title polyanion is solution-stable as shown by <superscript>31</superscript> P and <superscript>203/205</superscript> Tl NMR. This was also supported by Tl NMR spectra simulations including several spin systems of isotopologues with half-spin nuclei ( <superscript>203</superscript> Tl, <superscript>205</superscript> Tl, <superscript>31</superscript> P, <superscript>183</superscript> W). <superscript>23</superscript> Na NMR showed a time-averaged signal of the Na <superscript>+</superscript> counter cations and the structurally bonded Na <superscript>+</superscript> ions. <superscript>203/205</superscript> Tl NMR spectra also showed a minor signal tentatively attributed to the trithallium-containing derivative [Tl <subscript>3</subscript> Na(H <subscript>2</subscript> O) <subscript>2</subscript> (P <subscript>2</subscript> W <subscript>15</subscript> O <subscript>56</subscript> ) <subscript>2</subscript> ] <superscript>14-</superscript> , which could also be identified in the solid state by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The bioactivity of polyanion 1 was also tested against bacteria and Leishmania.
