Abstract
- Centrioles acquire subdistal appendages (sDAPs) during primary cilium formation. In this issue of Developmental Cell, Mazo et al. (2016) demonstrate that sDAPs keep cilia submerged within deep membrane invaginations. When sDAPs and centrosome cohesion are disrupted, cilia surface to the plasma membrane, which may alter mechanical and chemical signal transduction.<br /> (Copyright © 2016 Elsevier Inc.
